  • We (in Australia) have been in drought for a long time now and the idea of a desalination plant has been thrown around a lot but has been rejected many times. It is hugely expensive and they are (in my opinion) disportionately resource hungry for the minimal water they treat. I have a consumer level RO unit in my house and it takes about 50 mins to treat 20 litres (5 gallons). Desalination is not the answer. Treating rain like its liquid gold, is. More dams, more rainwater tanks, stop rain that lands on terra firma from draining back into the ocean.
